Channels

Facebook Messenger channel

Connect a Facebook Page so visitors can chat with your assistant from Messenger.

The Messenger channel lets your assistant reply to anyone who messages your Facebook Page. The assistant uses the same knowledge sources, tools, and tone as it does on your website — the only thing that changes is the surface.

What you need

  • A Facebook Page for your business. Personal Facebook profiles are not supported.
  • A Facebook account that has an admin or editor role on the Page.
  • A Business Manager account if you want to manage Messenger access centrally. Optional but recommended for teams.

Connecting your Facebook Page

  1. Open your assistant and go to Channels → Messenger.
  2. Click Connect Facebook Page.
  3. Sign in to Facebook with an account that has admin access to the Page.
  4. Pick the Page you want to connect.
  5. Approve the requested permissions. Gabbex requests permission to read and send messages on behalf of the Page.
  6. You will be returned to the assistant with the Page marked as connected.

What permissions Gabbex requests

  • Read and send messages on the Page — required so the assistant can reply.
  • Page basic info — to display the Page name and avatar in the dashboard.

Gabbex does not post to your timeline, manage ads, or read anything outside Messenger conversations.

How conversations work

When a customer sends a message to your Page, the message is delivered to your assistant. The assistant replies in the same conversation. From the customer’s side, it looks like a normal Messenger thread.

The assistant uses the full knowledge base, can call lead capture, and can escalate to a human just as it does on the website.

The 24-hour rule

Like WhatsApp, Messenger restricts free-form messages to a 24-hour window after the customer’s most recent message. Outside that window, you can only send messages that fall under specific Meta-approved categories. In practice this almost never affects an AI assistant because replies are immediate.

Disconnecting Messenger

  1. Go to Channels → Messenger.
  2. Click Disconnect.
  3. Confirm.

The Page is unlinked. You can re-connect it later, or remove the Gabbex app from your Page settings on Facebook to revoke from the Facebook side.

Common issues

  • “My Page is not in the list during setup.” You probably do not have admin or editor access. Have the Page owner grant you the role and try again.
  • “Messages are arriving but no replies are sent.” Check the assistant’s Conversations tab — the messages should be visible there. If they are not, the channel may have lost its connection. Reconnect from the channel page.
  • “The Page is connected but I want it on a different assistant.” Disconnect from the current assistant first, then reconnect from the new one. A Page can only be linked to one assistant at a time.
